The hardest part about scrapping our original 207 jeans and starting from scratch was the intense amount of research that needed to be done to ensure that our product not only fit great and lasted a long time in tough conditions, but also had the traditional details that denim heads need in a jean. We essentially had to learn all the rules, so we could figure out where to break them appropriately.
Six months, nine samples, and an entire roll of the finest American Selvedge later, and here you have it. Simple from 10 feet away, but highly technical upon closer inspection. Triple needle construction, 13 oz. unsanforized American selvedge denim, deep dual knife/coin pocket, 9 oz. undyed pocketing, waistband interior and back pocket reinforcement (that triple stitch arcuate is actually structural and holds down a pocket reinforcement to hold off blowouts for a few more years.), clean finished seams, veg tan leather shank reinforcement at center front and for the McLachlan plaid "strong and Faithful" jacron. Oh, and the rule we broke was to opt for a top of the line YKK Excella zipper fly over shanks. Sue us. All in a classic mid-rise fit with room in the hips and a straight leg. That was a mouthful but it's important you know how far down the rabbit hole we went.
Lastly, these are a shrink to fit jean. If you order a 32, they will come as a 34-34.5 waist. Not to bore you with the details but the shrinkage characteristics of denim allow for more shrinkage with the grain of the fabric than cross grain (they’ll shrink in length more than in width). We utilize this fact by cutting the yoke, pocket facing, coin pocket, and waistband cross grain, so that after a warm tub soak and hang dry, the waist will come in to fit snug while the hip and leg will remain roughly the same width as before, giving fullness and comfort where you need it, like the jeans were made just for you.
CARE INSTRUCTION: Turn your jeans inside out, fill a tub with warm water, soak the jeans for ten minutes, wring them out and hang dry them overnight. After 8-10 hours they'll be just barely damp. throw them in the dryer on the tumble dry low heat setting for 5-10 minutes. Take them out and put them on. If they're a little snug in the waist you did it right. That fabric will relax back out after an hour or two of wear and be your best fitting jean in your closet. Guaranteed.
